As the weather is starting to become warmer, I'm finding myself missing missing winter. I miss wearing so many layers that I can barely move. I miss being so cold at night it takes me hours to get to sleep, and even when I do, I wake up freezing and find that my covers are on the floor.
Haha, who am I kidding, I can't WAIT for summer.
But what I really DO miss is eggnog.
I am not quite sure why stores do not sell eggnog all year round. Maybe it's only a good seller around Christmas because then people can justify drinking the creamiest, most fattening drink in the store with a hand wave, saying "it's a holiday!"
But what's stopping you from choosing the closest holiday and making that your excuse? Last week, we had our first "Family Day" in BC, which means we don't get school/work because of..family? I'm not quite sure, I looked at the Wikipedia article, and it didn't tell me why we celebrate it. Maybe they think that the name should tell us everything we need to know.
So I say that this holiday should observe bringing eggnog back into our lives.
I made this recipe with some homemade eggnog. Sadly it was all gone before I could take any pictures, but I used this recipe. And when I say it was gone so fast, that was all me. As well as drinking it, I also made a cake (will post later) because I for one LOVE eggnog. And I predict that I will be making it all year round.
What you'll need:
-2 cups eggnog
-1 cup whipping cream
-3 cups whole milk
-2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
-1/3 cup agave syrup
-1 cup Nutella
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, mix together the eggnog, agave syrup, whipping cream, milk and vanilla.
2. Pour the mixture into your ice cream maker and process according to manufacturer's instructions.
3. Place the Nutella in a microwavable safe bowl and microwave for 20-25 seconds.
4. When the ice cream is done, pour half of the mixture in an airtight storing container. Drop half the heated Nutella by spoonfuls in the ice cream and swirl with a knife. Pour the remaining ice cream in the container and stir in the remaining Nutella. Freeze for at least 2 hours.

I think you exactly pinpointed the reason why eggnog is only had at Christmas time. I would (much too) happily have it year round but alas, I don't think my jeans will agree hahaha. Lovely recipe, now just need to keep myself away from looking at that gorgeous photo too much x
ReplyDeleteI have discovered this liquor called Rumchata, it is a good substitute for your missing eggnog flavors :) This looks delicious.

ReplyDeleteHi Cathleen,
ReplyDeleteI'm never a winter person... The only thing I like about winter is the slow baking and baking is never too hot at home :p
I always like to associate eggnog with Christmas and I do agree that eating this ice cream is like having mouthful of winter wonderland :D

There's something though about only having it during a certain time of year right? Makes it more special?
